Yesterday I got an email from my former teacher at Winter Park Tech about a job offer. Inside it had details of a what the lady sent to her in regards of the job. Of course I was interested and quickly called the lady as instructed. We talked and she looked over my work while on the phone and said she really liked my portfolio, that what she needed was some help on a couple of projects. She said that she was currently “reassigning” her resources (staff) to better the company. So, hopefully I will be a part of that “assignment”. I have a meeting with her again on the 2nd and cannot wait for it. Wish me luck!

In a week or so I will be leaving to Massachusetts with my mother. We will be driving up there and will probably stay a good two weeks. Although, the point for going up there is so that she can see if she can get back surgery, I cannot wait to visit my family. The last time I went up North was about a year ago and was only for a whole day and a half. So, not much was done.

I’ve heard that a lot has changed, not only the city, but within my family and friends and I want to see just how much. I’m eager and hope that God will protect us throughout the journey. Haha, I make it sound like I’m going on some adventure! Meh, maybe it sort of is, since we’ll be going through, what, 8-9 states? Yes, a mission indeed.

On a random side note, Winter Park Tech (my old school, where I took a Web Design class) was featured on Adobe.com! Although it was not my old class that was featured but the print class of Digital Design, I’m still proud that they were mentioned. Also, it’s cool to know that one of the people as your professional references were also featured on the website. Sorry, to me that’s just cool. =P

Adobe.com Case Study: Winter Park Tech

Sorry about the crappy title, didn’t know what to put it as. Oh well, onto the blog. =)

Okay, tell me why I swore up and down for a good minute (time) that Pan’s Labyrinth was a kids movie? Wow, how wrong was I! I’m not going to go into detail right now, but let me just tell you in one word; ew! Ok that was more like sound, but you get me. The story itself is sad and the movie amazing, but the torture/killing/hurting scenes and the frigging fauna monster/thing just groused me out. (sorry if I’m sounding a little immature) Usually I can sit through crap like that while eating pizza, but the rawness in that movie just had my stomach churning. But it is a good movie, sad, but good.

So onto another topic, I applied at Bright House Networks not to long ago, maybe a week or two ago. They had an opening for Web Content Producer/Designer, haha, I really think Web Designer would have been just fine, but eh. Anyways, I sent in my resume and cover letter and that was that. Two weeks later, that being today, I received an email stating that they looked over my resume and are carefully considering it.

Now, I don’t know about you, but hearing those words put me on edge a little bit.

Continuing that paragraph was a link to their full application that I needed to fill out in order to complete the “processing”. I filled it out and now I’m in waiting again. I’m really nervous and hoping that this is the job for me. I don’t want to talk about it too much, don’t want to jinx it *knocks on wood*. If I get this job, I’ll work with it for a year or two and save up money for NY. If not, then I’m going straight to Full Sail. Simple as that.

Well, I have nothing more interesting to talk about, so I will leave at that. =)

Today I went to Full Sail for their ‘Behind the Scenes Tour’. Basically, it’s an open house to all visitors, students and family. They hold this event once a month and talk about not only the program prospective students are interested in, but also all of their programs and events.

I just have to say; this school is amazing! Everything they own is state-of-the-art. The students, teachers, and staff are all very down-to-earth people with a passion for this industry. This school has everything any undergraduate to even graduate could want and then some. The film department just got me a little to over excited when we visited all the rooms with equipment after equipment. I felt like running over to the cameras and playing with them! And, oh my gawd, their sound editing systems were HUGE! Bigger then what I’ve seen in a recording studio, it was crazy! They also showed us the many graduates and their accomplishments through out the years, and I have to say mostly everything you see out there has at least one Full Sail graduate on board. I love it!

Of course, where there is happiness, sadness is always at toe. Finally we get to the end of the tour, where we are able to meet with admission and financial aid representatives and faculty. Their film department in the span of 21 months comes out to be a whomping $69,175.00 dollars! That’s $23,025.00 dollars every 7 months. My mother, who accompanied me on this event, jaw dropped when we were told this. I mean, I knew it was expensive but not THIS expensive. Do you know how many loans I would/will need to take out for this? I’d be in debt before I could even start my life. A year and nine months till I’d graduate and then six to seven months later, I’d have to start paying my dues.

And even after all of this has been said and done, I am still interested in going to this school! Woe is me. =(

Sadly, I did not get the job as Westgate. The man called me back and told me that at that time they really needed someone with expert skills in Flash and action-scripting. I’m not going to lie, I SUCK in Flash, but I do know the program, since I had to make a mock company website using Flash and made a menu made purely with action-script, but I guess it wasn’t good enough for them. My hopes of finding a well off job in web design are sinking fast and I feel that I should just stick to freelancing and find a part-time job doing something else. In the end, I need money, no matter how I get it. (OK so it DOES matter how I get, if you get my drift…ha ha)

So, for the rest of this week, I will be trying to find as many grants, loans, and scholarships I can find and fill out an application for them. God only knows I will need them.
