Today my mother and I went to go see the new movie ‘El Cantante’ that stars Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. The movie is a biopic on the legendary Salsa artist, Hector Lavoe (Marc Anthony). It is told from the point of view of his wife, Puchi (Jennifer Lopez) years after his death. Although I was only about 5 years old when he died (1993), I grew up listening to most of his songs with the Fania (famous New York/Puerto Rican record label) All Stars. So every time during the movie I would hear his songs, I would sing along.

During the making of this movie, there was much controversy and problems between family and friends of Hector. Many things in the movie were left out and a lot of people in Puerto Rico had problems with that. I heard that his family was angry about how they (directors, producers, and writers of the movie) had the focus more on his drug abuse then on his accomplishments during his lifetime. That’s where Puchi, his recently deiced wife, comes in. She wanted the movie to be told from how she saw it, the raw way. What not many people saw behind the closed doors, and I think she did an amazing job!

Both Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez did a remarkable job with this movie and if you are a latino or even a music lover, I highly recommend this movie to you.

What I love most about this whole story is that it adds on to stories I’ve heard since the day I was born. My mother grew up with most of those people in both Puerto Rico and New York. For the Latinos out there who know who Roberto Rohena/Roena is, well, he’s my mother’s cousin and another member of the Fania All Stars. He played with Hector Lavoe and all of those big time Newyoricans! It just gets me so excited to learn more about all of these legendary people and I’m so glad to be apart of it all, even if just a little bit. =)

YES, I got the car! I thank a million times to my father, aunt, and uncle for helping me with the payment and also my mother with the insurance! My family is the best. So basically all day today this was what I was doing. This is what my new Mustang looks like, only difference is that it’s red and doesn’t have leather seats (thank God). I didn’t want a 2005-2007 model because I think they’re ugly. I know it shouldn’t be just about looks, but my uncle looked over the car and said it was in great condition. Also it only has 71,000 miles on it! So its not so bad. 1999 Ford Mustang
Ah, I love it! Now I just need to get a job in order to pay for it and pay gas…haha.

Argh, still posting up pages, they’re in “editing” mode so that’s why you aren’t able to see them yet. Since WP is a little different then normal HTML files, I had a lot to change. Also I wanted to clean up most of the pages.

So for a while now I’ve been whining (yes, I can admit that…haha) about wanting a newer Mustang. I currently have a 1990 Ford Mustang that well, needs a lot of work done for it to be up to date and I see no point in putting more money into it when I can put it towards a new car. When I told my mother and father, they would always say, “Get a job”. Of course I understood this and actually was ready to get one and start paying one monthly once I was ready to do so. But it looks like my dear ole dad beat me to it!

Today he came home and told me that he found the perfect Mustang at a great price and that by Friday it would be mine. The thing is he has to put $1,000 down. So from now and Friday we need to come up with the money so I can have it! I’m so excited, I  got to see what it looks like and boy it’s a beauty! I just really hope that I can get this car, it’s only $127 a month and my dad say he would for the first two weeks, then after that I would need to, which I have no problem with. I’m so happy!! *crosses fingers* I just REALLY HOPE I can get it.

On another note, I’m still putting up the pages so please do not mind the few working pages. =)
