Site Needs Updating!
What an interesting blog post this is…sike! (haha, I miss saying that!)
I was just thinking to myself that I really need to update this site more. It’s looking a hot mess right now. Every time I do make a new layout, I get sick of it right away and trash before it even becomes live. Its becoming a bad habit. I’m just not satisfied with my designs for this site. Anyways, hopefully in the future, I’ll have a design that’s worth putting up instead of these crappy themes I keep stumbling upon.
In other news, I bought another domain and will be creating a “network” of sorts with it. I’m thinking design & hosting, that will be a part of this network. Sounds exciting in my head! I’ve already made a logo (that I can’t wait to see on a business card!) and am currently creating layouts for both projects. When I have a more solid foundation of the two projects, I’ll let you all know more about it.

As a graphic designer, I suppose I really have no excuse not to design my own layouts, but I don’t want to because 1) There are plenty of nice pre-made themes that I can customize to my liking and save myself the time and headache of designing, then coding. 2) I’m overly critical of things I have to design for myself – partly the reason my portfolio site is back down again. I HATE designing for myself.
And your themes aren’t crappy. I quite like the one you have up right now.
I can’t wait to hear more about your upcoming ‘network’. Sounds interesting.

I’m not a graphic designer or any of the sort, so I guess I don’t have that pressure on me to whip up something fabulous every so often. Though I am like you, I do get sick of seeing the same thing all the time. I’m sure your next layout will be great.

I always get sick of the layouts I make and I end up using premade layouts. It is so frustrating! Good luck with your new project! I’m sure it will turn out well!

And that’s the reason why I don’t even try to tinker with my layout. Besides the fact that WP is very limiting with what you can do, I know I’ll never be contented with my layout once I get started. Can’t wait to hear about the details of your new project!

I guess this happens once in a while to every designer. We tend to get to the extend where we can’t appreciate the designs we made or aren’t satisfied with it. I’m sure you can come up with something you really like soon. Inspirations often comes in the most unusual ways.

My excuse is that I’m a) too lazy to figure out how to make my own layout on WP and b) I haven’t been able to design layouts in a long time (not that I thought my layouts were ever particularly dazzling either). Maybe you just need some downtime in not designing on the computer and try just playing around with papers and pens to see what you can come up with?
