“Old Skool” Gaming…
So, thanks to my lovely boyfriend and his little brother, I got back into gaming this past weekend. Not that I ever really left it, but after my PS2 was pawned (don’t ask) some years ago, I never really got back into the game world and the closest thing I came across to as a fun “game” was Roller Coaster Tycoon and The Movies for my PC.
Anyways, so on Sunday I got to play games like Spyro, Final Fantasy VII – IX for the PS One and even Mortal Kombat (the original!) for the Sega Genesis.
My gawd was I bored in ten seconds flat!
Of course at the time, these games were probably the highlight of all children on either their birthday or Christmas Morning. Oh-ing and Aw-ing as these totally out of this world graphics came to play on TV screens every where, but with how much we have advanced in the gaming world (especially graphics), it was really hard to appreciate these classic games. The graphics were HORRIBLE and the music just as annoying. The loading time in between cut-scenes and levels was just TOO long for my comfort, I thought I was hitting up Dial up all over again.
Not only that, but I had to blow on the cartridge and system for the Genesis about 18 times before the game would work. I’m sure all of you older then 17 can remember those good ole times!
The only game that I can proudly say I love till this day and can beat over 100 times in one day and live with the crappy looking graphics is Super Mario Bros. for the Super Nintendo.
Thank God for Mario and 2D done right! Haha.

Ahh, fond memories of my sister throwing the controller at the television because she couldn’t Spyro to glide… I’m not much of a gamer anymore, but I still enjoy my trusty old SNES and Yoshi’s Island remains my absolute favourite game of all time.
Although, I wouldn’t mine giving Spyro another go. I remember loving it…
